Challenge
The Port Authority of Allegheny County, a public transportation service agency serving Pittsburgh and Allegheny County, sought interactive technology and advertising concepts to create an alternative means of revenue generation.
Solution
Conceptualized, developed, and designed an alternative transit sign/shelter system that would increase system-wide communication, route comprehension, safety, revenue generation, and ridership utilizing a combination of large format touch technologies, mapping/wayfinding programming, digital marketing, solar technology, and mobile applications to create a sustainable design solution.
Result
Proposed an advanced sign/shelter system using interactive technology for route comprehension and for paid advertising that would breakeven by year one and generate significant revenue by year two and beyond; a scalable concept with potential for implementation in other markets around the world.
